Epic Games Raises $1.25B in funding

Epic Games, the company behind Unreal Engine, has raised approximately $1.25B in new private equity funding from seven firms.

This latest investment is said to value Epic Games at around $12.5B which is fantastic news for both the company and the developers who use it.

In terms of management, Tim Sweeney, Epic Games’ founder and CEO, remains the controlling owner.

In addition to this recent investment, Epics games has already seen a huge rise in its income through its FREE Fortnite game which is reported to have earned $1 billion in revenue in last 12 months.

The trend in investing in games engines is also evident when looking at recent investments in Unity. According to Crunchbase, Unity also raised a large amount of investment earlier this year. In  May 2017 they raised $250 million and a further $145 million in September 2018, taking their total investment to over $600 million.
